Born on April 28, 1915, Richard L. Schmoyer graduated from Lehigh University in 1937 before building his home on Stony Battery Road in Landisville, Pennsylvania.

In addition to his notoriety as the designer of the Sunquest Sundial, Schmoyer is also well known for designing and repairing clocks and also holds patents for other engineering designs.

He was a charter member of the North American Sundial Society (member #53) and a member of the British Sundial Society, and was always eager to help aspiring sundialists with their work.

Richard Schmoyer died on May 29, 1997 after a long illness at 82 years of age.

This website is a project of his grandchildren to share information about the Sunquest sundial as a source of inspiration for astrometrical timekeeping.
